The Fire Island Lighthouse is a well recognized icon here on Long Island, New York, and it is visible from the Long Island mainland as well as on Fire Island itself. It is fully functional and is open for tours during the summer. This lighthouse is also a stop on the local Lighthouse Challenge (an event where participants view a long list of lighthouses in a short period of time.)
