HISTORY:

The Shamrock V built in England by Sir Thomas Lipton (of the Lipton tea dynasty), was the first of the 10 J-Class of boats ever to be built, and today is one of only 3 of the original all wood hull J-Class boats in existance today. Mahogany over a steel frame, to be exact. The others were steel construction and were scrapped for the war effort. The J-class boats had lengths of over 130'!

The Shamrock V has undergone several massive overhauls and retrofittings. She never won the America's Cup and is now owned by a billionaire Brazilian whose fortune was made in the telecom industry. She has participated in the 2001 America's Cup Jubilee, an exhibition and reenactment race in England with two other J yachts, the Endeavor, and the Velsheda as well as over 200 other boats.
